The Women’s Fund of East Tennessee commenced the third installment of Journeys of Women on October 30th. The eight-day exhibit of women’s art was held at Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts. Every work of art sold during the Journeys of Women event contributed to the total that will directly benefit organizations that actively support women in East Tennessee.
Talented artists of Northeast Tennessee presented art in a variety of mediums—photography, oils, pottery, and more. Several of the artists shared the inspirations behind their pieces. Catherine Murray considered her position as a woman in art by saying, “I am not sure that being a woman has much to do with my inclination to make art, although I am sure my perspective is filtered through my experience as a woman.” The art presented at Journeys of Women III all reflected the strength of women and girls and the possibility of transformation.
The Women’s Fund is certainly fortunate to have passionate women committed to our mission. Thank you to our Journeys III Committee Chair, Judy Ingala, Cynthia Burnley, Pam Blair, Carol Transou, Nita Summers, Linda Spence, and Caroline Scharfstein. These dedicated leaders made this event a great success.

Of the four Women’s Funds in Tennessee, the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee is the newest. In just three years, the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee has granted $240,250 to 16 organizations that serve women and girls throughout the 25 counties in East Tennessee. The Women’s Fund is looking forward to awarding new grants totaling $75,000 in April 2016 in the continued effort to break down barriers for women and girls. Investing in women and girls creates better communities for all of us.
